Holly Sonders, aka Holly Niederkohr is an American college golfer turned sport newscaster from Marysville, Ohio. Sonders serves as one of the primary broadcasters for FOX Sports’ United States Golf Association (USGA) event coverage, and has contributed as a sideline reporter for a number of NFL games. She has since become one of golf’s most recognizable television personalities.
Sonders found a passion competing in golf at a young age, winning her first organized tournament when she was just seven years old. Boasting a fantastic academic and athletic resume, she received a scholarship offer to Michigan State University to join the school’s highly regarded women’s golf program. Sonders started all four years for the Spartans, earning Academic All-Big Ten honors following her sophomore and junior seasons, while also helping lead the team to a Big Ten Conference championship in 2007. A veteran of 93 rounds during her collegiate career, she started in the NCAA Regional tournament three times and competed in the NCAA Championship tournament twice. Sonders also is no stranger to the world-class events of the USGA, participating in the United States Women’s Amateur Championship in 2006. After earning a degree in journalism from Michigan State, Sonders embarked on a career in television following her 2009 graduation.
In 2011, at the young age of 23, she sought to take advantage of her extensive playing background and attended an audition for NBC’s upstart Golf Channel. She landed a job as one of the original cast members of the channel’s hit morning talk show, “Morning Drive.” Sonders contributed to a number of the network’s different programs over the next three years, including “School of Golf” and “Playing Lesson with the Pros,” becoming one of Golf Channel’s most popular personalities. In July 2014, she joined FOX Sports as a reporter and remote studio host for USGA events, as well as a sideline reporter for a package of NFL games. Age 28.
